Holocaust Survivor Talks for BCA Historians

In preparation for our Holocaust survivor who is visiting BCA in March, over 90 Year 9,10 and 11 Historians have participated in a series of workshops this week. Alex Coutts Fender, lawyer and educator from HET discussed the crippling violation of human rights that Jews living under the Nazi regime were forced to endure. Emily Coulson, Year 9 student, was right to deduce that the Jews were numerically a small minority, they had to be in order for Hitler to target them successfully. The holocaust of Jews has been happening over millennia in different countries (England 1400s). Students looked at the increasing legislation introduced to isolate them to violate the Jewish population. The laws introduced by the regime were always contrived to inflict maximum harm and dehumanisation. Alex likened the plight of the Jewish person to being as vulnerable as a snail without its shell. What students took away from this as explained by Kardalen, Year 11 student, was that if children did not see the discriminated, then they were more likely to believe the propaganda and the false news surrounding them. We look forward to welcoming our guest speaker and survivor later in the term. Photography credits to Gabby and Jess both from Year 10.
